WAERlinx WMS
Redesigning a 20 year old application to be user first.

Problem
WAER Systems is the creator of WAERLinx, a WMS (warehouse management system) for businesses that run NetSuite as their ERP (Enterprice Resource Planning) software. I established design as a discipline at WAER as the company’s first dedicated designer in it’s 20 year history, aiming to tackle deeply ingrained usability issues in operational workflows. I drove foundational design research through customer warehouse site visits, surveys and stakeholder interviews. These showed that the existing solution was a bottleneck for warehouse workers due to at times an unintuitive interface that had a learning curve to use, increasing the time taken for workers to complete tasks.
Solution
Research showed that a solution had to be fast, intuitive for android users, optimized for very small screens and the environment of a warehouse - meaning large, easy to tap interactive elements, clear accessible instructions and quick ways to navigate throughout the product. This lead to the creation of a PoC built from scratch in modern web technologies to be mobile first.

Once inital wireframes were given to customers for feedback and iteration, I established a Design System and a full set of hifi designs.
These were then picked up by a front-end developer and built in React and MUI, where I directed the UI components to be built in Storybook for re-uability and testing of components in multiple screen situations. Inital feedback showed that customer feedback was positive and encouraging.
This work was created at & is property of WAER Systems.
